Frontlit Letters

What It Is

Frontlit letters put the light where the reader is: the acrylic face of each letter glows toward the street, giving the strongest, most direct read of any letter construction. This is the workhorse format for shop names that must be legible at distance, in daylight savings gloom and in the rain.

The construction pairs a metal or PVC return and back with a translucent acrylic face — 3, 5 or 8 mm — lit from inside by waterproof LED modules. The face color is the brand color, the glow is even across the letter, and because the light source faces outward, frontlit letters deliver more visible brightness per watt than halo constructions.

Materials and Build

Letters are fabricated, not printed: faces are cut by laser from stainless steel (#304 or #316) or acrylic — with 3, 5 and 8 mm acrylic options listed — returns are formed to depths between 10 and 180 mm, and the finish is polished, painted or left as brushed metal. Inside sit waterproof LED modules powered through a Mean Well transformer at a safe DC 12V. The listed production route is laser cutting, polishing, painting and assembly, and the listed production time is 5–7 working days.

Every order ships with a 1:1 paper installation template, so the spacing designed on screen is the spacing drilled on the wall. Listed warranty terms are 5 years for stainless steel and acrylic elements and 3 years for the LED and transformer; express delivery by DHL, FedEx or TNT is listed at 3–5 days, with air freight at 5–7 days and sea freight at 20–30 days for larger sets.

When to Choose Frontlit

Choose frontlit when the sign's job is pure communication: a name over a shop, a unit number in a retail park, a drive-by brand on a roadside facade. The glowing face reads at the greatest distance and photographs true to brand color, which is why chains standardize on it. Where the setting is quieter — a boutique interior, a professional lobby — the same letter in backlit form may suit the room better, and the two constructions can be mixed across one site.

Face colors are produced in acrylic, so very specific brand tones should be checked against the acrylic range at proof stage; the proof shows the lit color, not just the daylight color, because the two differ.
